I am going to start this post by stating that I have *insane* levels of OCD and perfectionism, which is actually why I decided to try my hand at watercolor in the first place. I have been an artist/crafter/creator my entire life and everything I've ever made always has to be perfect. Annoyingly so. To the point where I use grids, rulers, math, and measurements for *everything.* It's exhausting. For once, I'd like to just be able to create without the constant need for fixing and feeling like every line and mark has to be absolutely perfect. I was hoping watercolor would finally teach me to let go a bit because the medium itself only allows you so much control, but still, I'm finding myself up to my same old tricks. Even with my line and wash sketches, I can't help but make every line completely straight. I'm so jealous of those less than perfect doodles with their squiggly, inconsistent lines. I want to do that! Does anyone have any tips or advice on how to learn to paint and sketch more freely? Any exercises or techniques that helped train their brain to do this? Because even if I start off this way, I find within a few minutes, I start perfecting my sketch again and it looks weird being half loose and half pin straight. Any help would be appreciated!
