Hi everyone,
I’ll be doing an REU this summer, and I want to make a strong impression on the main professors and mentors while also learning as much as possible.
I understand how to stand out in regular tech internships or big tech recruiting, but I’m less sure what “doing well” looks like in a research setting. My project is very relevant to my interests, and the skills I build from it could help me a lot long term.
For people who have done REUs before, what should I focus on during the program? How do I show that I’m serious, useful, and engaged without overdoing it?
I’d appreciate advice on things like communication, asking good questions, contributing to the project, presenting progress, reading papers, and building a good relationship with professors/mentors.
Thanks!
