I've recently started looking at apartments in Hamilton and have seen so many reviews saying to watch out for bed bugs. Is this a common thing people see?

I did some more digging and found out Hamilton is a bed bug capital in Ontario. Is it really THAT bad?

I like the atmosphere in Hamilton but how do I know there are no bed bugs in a place before signing a lease? TIA
