Hostel and Itinerary Recommendations

Hello my friend and I will be visiting Himachal by May end for like 5ish days. We are just gonna rent a scooty and drive around. I need some help with deciding a few factors.

Places: we are thinking of starting from Bir then covering Kangra and Mcleod and Dharamkot.

Hostels: We are looking for some dorms that are fun and the vibe is good. I think zostel is sold out but if y'all know some places where theres fun and parties and chill scenes.

Itinerary: If there are places you would recommend that we visit like some hidden waterfall or anything else.

Food: Some good chai paratha at some good local dhaba if you guys know. I dont like cafes and all

Rishikesh Advice

Hey I'm (26 F) planning a trip to Rishikesh for my birthday in June 1st week. I wanna have a fun trip where I am doing activities, meeting new people, trying new things and also a little time to slow down and just relax.

I would like to seek your advice on how to have the best time there, with regards to:

  • adventure sports- which ones would be good and if you have any contacts who are trustworthy because I don't wanna fall prey to marketed stuff.
  • parties- if there are any good scenes out there (i don't think there is but it doesn't hurt to ask)
  • new people- i would love to meet new people and i know hostels and dorms are a way to go but other than that where can we make new friends
  • hostels- speaking of... i've had good experience with zostels but if there are any local places that are friendly and fun (but also hygienic and worth it)
  • food- i don't like cafes, i just wanna have a good chai and tasty food. if there are some local sports or dhaba that you guys like.
  • safety- as a woman ofcourse there are things i am aware of in general but if there's any specific thing i should be made aware of since Rishikesh is notorious.

Apart from this, if there are more things you have in mind please pleaaaase let me know I want to make the most out of my experience there!

Hello i am thinking of doing a little trip to Himachal by May end with a friend. we were thinking of going to Bir, then to Kangra and then till Dharamkot, travelling via road. we are thinking of renting a scooty (we've not driven a car in the mountains by ourselves) and then just hitting the road and staying at dorms. (5 days)

like he's been hitchhiking throughout the Spiti circuit and more and now im gonna join him for a little less rugged thing. he's totally a 'lets see where the vibe takes us' but i would like to know things beforehand.

this isn't a fully mapped out thing yet so i am seeking advice from people who have travelled like this!!!

if you can tell me the following I would be so grateful:

  • is this trip feasible? if not, how can we improve it.
  • places we can hit on the way, something that's not super commercialized, a little low-key.
  • good local food dhaba or eateries.
  • if there are some fun activities we can do at any of these places (except for paragliding in Bir we have done that.)
  • hidden gems like waterfalls or whatever, I've heard there are some great things around Bir.

Hey, for the 26 sept intake as an international student (F) what would you recommend for the accommodations?

I'm a postgrad and my campus will be on Oxford road. I don't want to go to the uni dorms but I'm looking for a place that is more social (albeit cheap since gbp is 100x my own currency). I have no qualms about using public transit, I'd actually prefer it. So, can anyone give me suggestions (and links if available) about housing societies or flats or anything which will be good. Are sites like Casita, Amber, UniHomes legit for finding accomms?

I'd appreciate any and every help when it comes to accommodation and the subsequent period of arrival and adjustment to a new country.
Also if anyone can hmu about the social scenes in the city. thx!

TL;DR:
26 (F) seeking accommodation advice for 2026 sept intake.
