Exhaust Tuning Options
Has anyone here (especially those with custom tunes) tried modifying the exhaust behavior with their tune? This might sound like a weird question at first, but hear me out. I recently had the pleasure of driving a 2019 X3 M40i, and holy shit I couldn’t believe how much more aggressive the cold start was than my ‘21 M340i. You would think some exotic car had just started up by the sound of it. Everyone here knows about the exhaust notes being tamed down on the M340i after the 2020 model year in terms of the burbles, but I feel like nobody really talks about the insane start-up roar of the ‘18-19 X3 M40i. I’ve found little to no info on this online, but some AI info points to this drastic difference being a simple difference in the factory tunes (since obviously the B58 is largely the same between the two aside from the 48V battery being added). I also know that MHD has a “GTS start-up roar” setting, but this is NOT what I’m referring to. If anyone has tried adjusting their start-up sound/behavior through tuning, please share! I’d love to be able to replicate the ‘18-19 X3 M40i’s start-up sound in my M340i.
