(1) Dr John is so fucking cool, (2) I think he got closest of any white musician to doing blackface and getting away with it (other than Joni, who just did it) and I don't know enough about New Orleans to know if it's earned, (3) man I don't like the Band/Scorsese that much but Dr John and Van Morrison never sounded better than in their Last Waltz performances, (4) this song is so crazy - like it's mostly a beautiful song with nice lyrics that capture perfectly how indescribable the most important moments in your life feel - but also Dr John steals his best friend's girl and is like, well he was a cuck so who cares?
