Hi all! My party just encountered a hag for the first time, and were kind enough to offer their names when asked. Naturally, she took that literally, stealing their names until they do a quest for her.

In-story, I had a couple who rolled good history checks remember an old campfire tale of a man whose name was stolen being forgotten by everyone they know, and eventually themselves. This has thus far proven sufficient motivation to get them to do the hag's bidding for the moment, but I think I'd like to make the curse mechanical as well as narrative.

My first thought was to impose disadvantage on any social check (persuasion, deception, intimidation)(folks inherently don't trust people without names), and to lose one proficiency per long rest, starting with skills, then tools, then weapons, then armor, and finally languages (as they begin to lose their own memories of their training).

Thoughts? Have you ever seen mechanics for being nameless? Would these effects strike you as fun if you were at my table? If they hustle, they should be able to complete the hag's quest in less than a week.
