Dhampir hunger mechanics
I'm playing a dhampir in my current campaign and I made some hunger mechanics that I thought I might share. I know RAW dhampirs just have a hunger for something from the living, but I wanted to have a more set way to RP it. My system is fairly fiddly, so, while I discussed it with the DM, I'll be applying it on my own and using it primarily for the purposes of roleplay. Additionally, as I wanted being a dhampir to be a greater difficulty, I'm ruling that only humanoid blood slakes the character's hunger. It's a horror campaign, so this is thematically appropriate.
Every four hours without blood, roll a Cha save and a Con save. Base save is 13. Every failure increases the save by 1. Every 3-day period the character goes with reduced blood consumption, the save decreases by 1. A failure increases hunger level by 1. A crit failure increases hunger level by 2. Two successes in a row decrease hunger by 1. A critical success counts as two successes.
For example, at noon, the character drinks blood. At 4 PM, they roll a 14 Con save and a 9 Cha save. The DC is 13, so their physical hunger remains at level 1 and their psychological hunger increases to level 2. The DC for Con is still 13, but the DC for Cha is now 14. Now at 8 PM they roll again. They roll a 12 for Con and a nat 20 for Cha. Their physical hunger is now level 2, but their psychological hunger is level 1. DC for both is 14.
Additionally, when within 10 ft of someone who is bleeding, the dhampir must do a cha save.
The levels go as follows:
Physical: 1. Normal 2. Shaky and perspiring 3. Unsteady, visibly unwell 4. Prone to fainting 5. In and out of consciousness
Psychological: 1. Normal 2. Irritable 3. Distracted and very irritable 4. Fully preoccupied 5. Extremely preoccupied, prone to attacking nearby humanoids
