Hi Folks!

Of the two Solo 680 I own, one has become the spare-part donor to keep the other going. So I have been thinking about tinkering with it a little bit. Can't make it much worse at this point 😉

There ist a NOS Piston&cylinder kit for the 690 on the top shelf of my shop, which someone told me would fit the 680 as well. Footprint of the cylinder is the same, just with a bigger bore.

Has anyone ever done this successfully? Will the crank arm fit? Would be really bummed if I messed up that rare kit.

I like to have a pair of identical saws for milling, so you can just swap the engine when it gets too hot and keep working. My good´ole Solos that I´ve used so far are coming of age, with the first one hitting 40 years of service in ´26. And by now, problems start to get unsolveable. So I will just keep one running as long as possible for felling and salvage the other for parts.

As a replacement, I decided to test the G660 which I got a really nice deal on. Two blocks are in the mail already. Question that arises is, will it be possible to modify the milling bars I have for the 680 to match the G660 mount? I have found tables of the different versions online, but cannot really figure out which one is on the G660. Maybe someone around here knows a bit on this. I´m in a bit of a hurry, for summer is closing in and I still have a 28" oak log to mill before it gets too hot.
