Ok so basically that’s how I break down and draw the MLBB default avatar. Many people wanted it done for specific heroes, so I’m making this to help them do it themselves. I feel those who care for the hero, should take initiative, so I guess we can see which heroes have the most passionate fans /j
Basically do it to whatever level you want, then you can comment it here or something, and I’ll help you finish whatever you got.
I thought I’d do a more complex example, where I do a low angle head tilt like Freya, and an exaggerated expression like Layla.
Tips:
- Lower the opacity of your colour layers so you can colour over your sketch. The art style doesn’t have hard lines as far as I can see so, I feel it’s better to just block out colours. Only eyes will have a hard line outline
This way your sketch doesn’t have to be perfect either, cause it can all be adjusted.
Lean towards more desaturated for shadows, you can add back any colour with a overlay layer
Shadows are typically warmer hue + more desaturated. I.e. skin will have an orange hue, shadow will lean more red. Hair may be blue, shading is more purple leaning etc.
When shading, it’s helpful to select/clip the base colour. On a different layer, shade it. This way u can shade without worrying about the colour leaking out and can keep the airbrush big for more softer shading.
Have a reference. Pick the pre-existing avatars that fit your vision closest and compare your work to it. See if your colours are too bright, saturated, dull or contrasted. Check the shapes, if they match or are too boxy (the style is very circular)
It won’t be perfect, even mine deviates. The more ambitious the harder it is to replicate. But it doesn’t have to be perfect, I think it’s better it have the spirit, and get as close as possible, then simply copying an existing avatar and all being cookie cutter pieces because of fear of not being close or convincing enough.
Have fun doing it yourself, or putting here for me to help you out! b( ̄▽ ̄*)
