Hi,
I've used H&R Block Basic/Deluxe successfully for close to 20 years, including an apartment rental in my home and then selling that home, and now including 2 small businesses for the past 2 or 3 years. My financial advisor doesn't have experience with H&R Block, and recommended I use TurboTax when I sold my home with the rental, but I tried both and H&R Block got something right that TurboTax got wrong, so I kept using it.
This year (I filed an extension) there was a little hiccup with self-employed health insurance premium deductions, I think it's maybe an issue because I did one thing and then went back and changed it and not everything filtered down correctly. I think I just need to start a new file and enter everything correctly the first time. My advisor thinks I need Premium, but I'm not convinced. Their comparison chart says you need Premium for 1099 income, but heck I think I was using Basic to file a 1099/Schedule C back in the day, and I've had no problem the last couple of years using Deluxe.
Can anyone shed any light on whether there would be any benefit to using Premium? I'm not keen to shell out an additional $99 (I use the desktop Mac version) to just have it be the same.
Thoughts? Thanks!
