I have been working at my current job for about 3 years now. I work in a uniquely fast paced project manager position in construction. I am 23 weeks and have a 16 month at home.

I went to them to tell them that I couldn’t keep up with my workload at about 10 weeks pregnant. I was wondering if I could switch departments for the time being - which they promote as something they are more than happy to do - or if I could get some extra help - like an assistant PM.

I think this made my direct boss extremely upset - maybe like he was even personally offended. He said at first that there aren’t many options to switch right now but if I did switch, I would be losing out on a lot of money for my family.

I went back to work and a few weeks later, I was having trouble keeping up with emails. He called me into his office very frustrated with my delayed responses (2-3 days for some). He said I need to respond within 8 hours for most things but 24 hours maximum. I get that, but I am now frustrated because I asked for help or to switch departments and now he is upset when I can’t keep up with my workload.

Now I just had to take PTO because my baby and I were sick for two days, and I am so behind. I had told them the situation both mornings, and I would still check my phone and see I got a text at 3 pm from my boss asking me to complete something by 5pm that day. I didn’t do it.

I am scared I am going to get fired and half of me wants to quit. I am working 8-11 hour days most days, I have an hour commute one way, they are micromanaging me now, and I keep making stupid mistakes because I am exhausted and burnt out.

My husband does not have medical insurance through his work, so I feel completely trapped. Does anybody know how to deal with a situation like this to make the most out of it or make it any better?
