Book club recs

Ok. We’re a group of 6 women who became friends when our kids started school. Kids are now 20. This is our 12th year of book clubs so we’ve done a lot of the usual recommendations.

It’s my turn to pick the next one. I try to do light/enjoyable picks, because the others tend to choose things with deep and depressing themes and part of my day job involves reading child protection reports so I get very tired of despair.

My last choice was A Gentleman in Moscow, but I’ve also done The Kitchen Front (lame), Remarkably Bright creatures (easy read), Thursday Murder Club (love)

My usual escapist reading sits in what I would call realistic fantasy/magic like Garth Nix, Naomi Novik, Sangu Mandani as well as Ursula La Guin and Jodi Taylor’s St Mary’s series.

Any suggestions for the next one? I like it to provoke some discussion but not be too onerous to read. Am currently looking at. Wizards Guide to Defensive Baking but not sure it will provoke enough discussion?
