Curious about intermarrying between different subcastes
This might be the wrong sub for this question, but I have always been curious about the concept of subcastes intermarrying with only certain other subcastes. I was born and raised in the U.S. so I didn't learn Indian history or anthropologie and am just getting into it. I did however hear a lot from my Indian born parents about which subcastes were acceptable to marry into (according to them). (Jokes on them, because I married a white guy.)
But anyway, I would love to see some data graphic that shows which subcastes permitted intermarriage with each other and where they were located. What would be even better is if there's someone out there who has looked at the reasoning behind the practice. Or was it not really a recognized practice and just my wacky family. That could also be a possibility. As I said, I know nothing.
Would appreciate any input that you have on the issue.
