Advice on catching a lost centipede

Advice on catching a lost centipede

Hello.. I've just had something heartbreaking happening

Lemme start off with the fact I an brand new to centipede specific keeping. I've kept a few bugs in my life, but they've mostly been spiders, mantis and beetles. I did rescue a centipede my dog tried to eat in my back yard. But he passed within 3 days, likely due to his injuries

That being said, it really changed my outlook and I've been really wanting to keep a centipede since!

Cue two days ago. Yes. Two days. I find someone in my area in South Australia selling invertebrates!! Awesome. Hes an hour and a half away. I make that drive. And I pick up a baby tiger centipede. I was so so happy

Then today. I decide to open his little enclosure. Give the lightest misting to his sphagnum moss - without realising he was sitting on the top of his moss. Why?? Why not in the dirt??

So, cue him deciding it was a good idea to crawl out, and then jump off the edge of the container into my lap. I was fully ready to grab this guy and risk a bite, I'm not afraid of that. But as soon as I got my bearrings. He crawled between my legs in my desk chair. And then VANISHED.

I mean like, gone. I was on it in a second. I have my roommate right there check to see if he was on my ass, the back of my chair - ANYTHING

The dude is gone. And the worst thing is my rabbits free roam this room and I know their stupid asses would assume it's a snack as soon as they found it

I've tried quiet time. Looking with a flashlight. Picking at tiny grooves. I now have three containers growing with different moist stuff inside, incase hes picky. Dirt, moss and paper towel. To no luck.

It has been 5 hours since the wiggly man went missing. And I am shattered that I somehow managed to keep the pet I was dreaming of around for a little over 24 hours.

All jokes aside. I feel really really silly over this. And genuinely very upset with myself for not doing so much as looking before I open the container. Is there anything more I could possibly do? Any tips on lost Centipedes? I know it's most likely a lost cause. Just missing my buddy already
