Vq37vhr ticking sound
Just bought a 2008 G37 Coupe recently and noticed something today on cold start. When I first start the car, especially after it’s been sitting cold, there’s a pretty loud ticking/tapping noise coming from what seems like the passenger side of the engine. After about 30 seconds to 1 minute once the engine warms up, the noise mostly goes away. You can still barely hear it if your ear is close to the engine, but it’s much quieter.
The car has a few mods: intakes, headers, test pipes, Y-pipe, and a single exit exhaust.
The weird part is the car drives really good otherwise. No misfires, no check engine light, power feels normal, and idle is smooth.
Someone told me it could be the PCV valve, so I replaced it already, but the sound is still there. I can’t tell exactly where the ticking is coming from.
Has anyone dealt with this before on a VQ37? Could it be lifters, timing chain/tensioner, gallery gasket, injectors, oil pressure issue, or something normal for these engines? Any advice would help.
