Traveling with an older adult
I’m taking my 80 year old grandma to Portugal this summer. My aunt (my grandmas daughter in law) is from Portugal and her parents still live in the Azores, so she invited us to come and visit while she is there for the summer.
I am just hoping to get any tips and tricks or places to see/visit. I’m 30 and she is incredibly worried she is going to “hold me back”. I honestly don’t care, I will just be vibing and relaxing wherever. I feel as though I can go back and experience the country how I want at any time, so I mostly want my grandma to have the best experience without totally exhausting her and making the trip miserable.
We are visiting Lisbon, Pico island (where my aunt will be), Terceira Island, and Porto over about 20 days. My aunt has only been back to Portugal twice since she moved to the states as a small child and says she doesn’t remember much or have enough knowledge to give me any tips.
Any advice? Recommend renting a car? Are taxis common enough to get us around the hilly areas? Anyone else have any places they absolutely loved? I am not opposed to renting a vehicle in any or all of the locations, day trips, tours, etc.. TIA, can’t wait to visit your beautiful country. I am very excited to try traditional Portuguese food!!
