Hi everyone! I’ve recently decided to pursue a barista position and would love some advice. I don’t have direct barista experience yet, but I’ve worked in food service for many years, including extensive time as an assistant manager at a local burger restaurant.
I’m hoping to apply to all the small local coffee shops near me. Most don’t have job postings online, but I figure if its anything like my traditional food service experience, places are often open to meeting the right person, so i’m planning on going in, introducing myself, and dropping off a resume.
I’d especially love input on how to present myself as a strong candidate without the espresso experience. In the past, I’ve had a lot of success with very personality forward resumes, happy headshot with a big smile and all. I find a lot of customer facing roles tend to value that. But I’m not sure how that translates to coffee shops.
Would you recommend including a headshot or keeping things more traditional? Lean into personality, or keep it more minimal and professional?
Thanks so much in advance! I really appreciate any insight!
