I feel like there’s been a cultural shift for the Grammys….
I think if what these last couple of Grammys been like in terms of what albums and songs won, I think the Grammys are starting to highlight cultural relevance and significance when it comes to choosing winners and not just the typical pop album.
Bad bunny winning album of the year with a non english album, especially during a time when he was getting so much push back for performing at the Super Bowl because he doesn’t sing in English and the 🧊 raids.
Beyonce FINALLY winning album of the year with Cowboy Carter, an album that highlights the black American experience through a genre that was basically hijacked by white people.
Jon batiste winning album of the year for We Are, a jazz album that celebrates black American culture and heritage. He was going up against major artists in this category and won with a jazz album in 2022, which I think was pretty impressive.
And there are so many more I could mention, but basically, the albums that have major impact and are relevant in society today have been awarded which I think is more important than what’s “popular”. I wouldn’t be surprised if next year’s AOTY winner is an unconventional one…..
