Camping spots in Texas that are actually worth the drive?

Texas has way more variety for camping than I expected. You’ve got desert campsites, pine forests, hill country rivers, beaches, and places that barely even feel like Texas anymore. I’ve been trying to put together a list of places that people genuinely enjoyed camping at instead of just the usual tourist recommendations.

A few places that keep getting mentioned are:

  • Big Bend National Park for the insane night sky and desert views
  • Palo Duro Canyon State Park if you want canyon scenery without going all the way to Arizona or Utah
  • Garner State Park for river camping and swimming
  • Pedernales Falls State Park for hiking and relaxing near the water
  • Caddo Lake State Park if you want something that feels almost creepy in a cool way with all the moss-covered trees

I’m still looking for more recommendations though, especially quieter places that aren’t packed every weekend. Bonus points if the campsite has good stargazing, decent weather, or spots nearby for fishing/kayaking.
