Brown crack in ceiling

I have this 24 inch brown line on my first floor ceiling. I marked it last year and it has grown about 8 inches over the past year.

Whats up with this? How do I fix it?

I thought it was water damage but it is not below a water source. I’ve included a picture of the area directly above it. The second floor air duct runs right over the crack. Is it possible I’m getting condensation on the 2nd floor duct and it’s causing water damage?

My mother has an IPhone and an IPad mini and I have linked her Hotmail email to both. Every couple months she gets a “connection to server has failed” message and won’t get new emails for 2-3 days.

Has anyone else experienced this and what worked to fix it?! I have her restarting the device and toggling the WiFi. If that doesn’t work then I have her delete and add the account again. That rarely works but it’s something to keep her busy.

Pretty sure it’s not the Hotmail server because the email refreshes just fine on her windows laptop.

If anyone has any advice I would be very grateful. My mom is 75 and lives 600 miles away. Every-time this happens I get panicked texts and phone calls until it is resolved. And providing over-the-phone tech support to a senior citizen is its own special hell.

Please save my sanity! I’m desperate!
