I’m choosing between Aston University and University of Leicester for Computer Science and I’m really stuck.

I care about:

  • enjoying the course (I prefer practical, hands-on work over heavy theory)
  • long-term prospects in software engineering
  • having a good uni experience (I’ll be living in halls either way)
  • not feeling like I missed out on something
  • And this might be a lil niche but whats the amateur boxing scene like there if you know? (How competitive the uni is at BUCS, good gyms etc.

If you’ve studied at either (or know people who have), could you honestly say:

  1. What is the day-to-day experience of the course actually like? (lectures, coursework, projects)
  2. Does it feel more practical or theoretical in reality?
  3. Do students seem engaged or just getting through it?
  4. How good are placements/internships from your experience?
  5. What’s the social/student life actually like?
  6. If you could choose again, would you still pick your uni? Why or why not?

I’m especially interested in honest downsides, not just positives. I'd also like to mention that I also already live in Birmingham, although not planning on commuting but a big thing that swaying me to go to Leicester is because of it being a new city to me.

Thanks in advance!!!
