Portrait practise

Something a bit more refined: I certainly didn't make things easy, as the size of her face was around 3" x 3" so it was out with the tiny brush....

Same process and oil paints as before, but I attempted a lot more glazing after the underpainting/grissaillestage. It didn't work as well as I'd hoped, and eventually learned that I should have applied a good, solid base of colour before getting the glazing medium out.

I also abandoned the idea of a necklace. The original design saying "Liberty" was cut off during the cropping process. And again, the size of the piece was going to cause problems.

Overall size 8" x 8". 30ogsm paper.

Another portrait study using the same materials and process as last time.

An 8"x8" Acrylic grissaille underpainting, over a sketch (with gridding) followed by a lot of blending and glazing.

I'm particularly happy with the loose interpretation of the lacework on her blouse.

Lemon yellow, Indigo, raw umber, cad red, yellow ochre and titanium white. Roberson's glaze medium. On 300gsm paper.
