This is mostly a post to share and see any similar experience as I feel terrible right now.

Finally managed to get some money aside after a first job to get started with the license. Bought the gear, managed to buy the used KTM Duke 200 from my cousin who did all the needed work so I got out of it for about 2000€. Great deal. Very happy.

Here, you don't even have any mandatory lesson to get a temporary permit, needed to start getting some lessons and later do the proper exam. So I did some basic tests around with my cousin, learnt the basics, and then did a 2h drive with him following me on his bike so we could take it slow.

Very happy, playing it very safe and slow. After that I drove about 1h alone and the next day, decided to go to a parking lot to practice and stop stalling.

After that, I drove to a friend's place to practice a bit more, but while slowing down before a roundabout, I was so focused on that, I did not turn correctly and hit the central sidewalk thing. It was all pretty slow ( <15km/h). 100% my bad and target fixation on it. I did not get hurt at all. So that's the good part.

Sadly, it seems like I broke the gear shift lever while it hit the sidewalk. And it turns out, the whole gear selection system got fucked because the lever bent inside of it. There was a small oil leak.

Now sadly insurance isn't covering any of it given it's a 2014 bike. And the dealership told me it would not be repairable for less than the original bike price, so not in budget right now. I feel terrible. It was my bad for the fall but it feels like such huge mechanical consequences for that. Of course I'm happy to not learn that while at the hospital.

I'm considering if I should maybe rent a bike to do the mandatory courses still and see if I can get a new bike for next season, or just drop everything as is.
