The teacher has chosen this skirt (see photos) as the costume for a group dance I am meant to be in. It doesn't come in a size big enough for me. The waist will be around 5cm (2") too small.

It has a zip at the side and an adjustable gather. How possible would it be to move the waistband further down the skirt to make more room? I realise it would make the skirt shorter - that isn't a huge problem as long as it's only 2" or so.

Any better ideas? Maybe open the non-zip side seam and add a triangle of elastic? The costume also includes a large "corset-style" belt, so a certain amount of messiness at the waist can be concealed.
