For Mother's Day

For Mother's Day

I spent the last few days making these sprites in honor of my momma, who I still love and miss every single day. It might seem like an odd tribute, but Tetris Attack was one of the only video games I ever saw her play. And she was merciless!! She would absolutely destroy both my brother and me consistently. There was no parental placating or letting us win once in a while for her lol. Just us getting our butts kicked over and over again, but I loved every minute of it.

Years later, when I moved out to go to college, I brought my Super Nintendo along, and I thoroughly enjoyed decimating all of my friends who were brave enough to challenge me in versus mode. I was a menace, but when she came to visit, she would still won every round. Some of the fondest memories I have are of her trash talking and sticking her tongue out at me when she inevitably won.

So Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there. I hope you're making lots of fun memories with your kiddos and having a great time doing so!!!

I have mentioned this privately to a few people or in comments here and there, but I decided to make this its own post because I want everyone to know. Whether you're just starting out or have been doing this for years, I would highly recommend joining the rednote app for multiple reasons. (It's a Chinese app, and I can understand if that creates an issue for some people. I have kept an eye on the permissions it has and to see if it's running in the background, etc. and I've had no problems with it at all.).

My first reason for recommending it, there are just so many AMAZING bead artists on there that work in both 2d and 3d, you're almost guaranteed to be inspired. Some of the things they make are so incredible that I just can't believe my eyes. I've saved so many patterns since downloading that app! And if you're a 3d builder, Mard has an account there, but there are just so many folks building awesome 3d pieces, you'll be floored.

Now, on to my second and admittedly more selfish reason. I'm hopeful that when more people start using that app regularly, they will immediately be able to recognize when someone is stealing someone else's pictures straight from rednote and bringing them here to post them as their own. I've been seeing it a whole lot recently, (especially the last few days) and it's just so incredibly disheartening to see someone repeatedly take credit for someone else's hard work. And honestly, I just don't have it in me to constantly call it out. It's exhausting and frustrating, and I would so much rather you guys be able to tell than to keep having to bring it up myself. I can see the time and effort that those artists spend on their work, and it's not fair to take that credit away from them.

So...should you decide to check rednote out for yourself, you can set your language preferences to English, but you will still be dealing with a whole lot of stuff in chinese. I've found that Google translate is my friend lol. I'd be more than happy to give anyone who needs some assistance a little walkthrough of how to set it up, suggestions for some awesome folks you can follow, and even some search terms that will bring up some really cool results. Please check it out. I swear I'm not getting paid or any sort of reward for making this post. It's just something I hope others will enjoy as much as I do.

I absolutely love these little guys! They are simplified, minimalist versions of well-known Nintendo game screens. The pixel art was originally designed by @pixel.stick.art on Instagram (used by permission), and then perler-fied by me. Finding colors that worked and looked as good as his designs was a lot of trial and error, but I'm so happy with the finished results.

This artist also has an Etsy shop (also called pixel stick art) where he sells these and a whole bunch more really great pixel art stuff. And I promise it's a lot more than just Mario and legend of zelda games lol. Those just happen to be the first ones I picked out, but I fully intend to make more at some point in the future.
