Got an extra half day for staff - district wide!

Really, it might not be my doing, but I'll take it.

I teach in a district near a stadium that is hosting many world cup matches. We are close enough that I can see the stadium from our campus and about 70% of the staff commute past it everyday.

I was looking up matches last month to plan my summer around and realized there was a match on a school day... That started at 3 pm.

It was already scheduled as a half day for students (11:40 end time), but a full work day for staff. Our contract end time is 2:30.

I immediately asked my union rep about it. Luckily, there was a staff meeting that day and I was told to bring it to our principal's attention.

The principal is awesome. His reaction was, "well, shit."

No one had looked at the schedule.

I just got word today that everyone is getting a half day. Cheers for sensible administration!
