Just like the title says, idk wtf happened. First the trap was having issues going off. He went in and ate the food without setting it off, so I re-baited it and made sure to leave the trip hook as loose as possible. It worked (seemingly) he was trapped. I covered it with a towel and was in the process of carrying him to the shed and I notice he's hanging out of the front door! So he was pinched in btwn the door and the floor of the trap. I was attempting to get him out but he managed to squeeze out and of course bolted. Idk how that fucking happened. I was carrying it from the sides. I guess the door didnt close all the way?? Idk but im so upset and annoyed now.
He's the last one from my community that I've yet to trap becuz he's elusive as hell. He's never let me touch him but he does respond to his name (Bruce) and he had FINALLY started seeming more comfortable around me and not running from me, its been a year. And now this traumatic experience happens. He'll never trust me again im sure.
Do you guys think theres hope that he'll come around again and I'll be able to try again? I really feel like he's probably traumatized beyond reason since it was such a freak thing to occur. And im hoping he didnt get hurt, it was dark outside and by the time I was able to get my phone flashlight on he had wriggled out but I didnt see any blood or anything on the trap so thats good. But that couldnt have been comfortable.
Ive never used a drop trap but the humane society requires them to be in a trap for TNR and I forsee problems in transferring him from a drop trap to a trap trap. Plus they only do these TNR days on certain, random days. All this only even matters if he'll ever come back around.
