Rogue or whipless Summoner?

I'm getting ready to start a new playthrough, but have been on the fence about what class I'd play.

I've played Calamity as Melee and Magic.
And I've played Ranged in Vanilla.

But I've never played Rogue, and I've never played Summoner long enough for it to count.

All I remember from the short time I played Summoner (stopped playing before killing even a single boss) was that I did not like using the whip.

I've seen discussions like this where the overwhelming response seemed to be Summoner > Rogue, but those were without the catch of factoring in Whips or not.

Which of the 2 does more damage is not really an issue for me so "X is way stronger than Y" is not really relevant here.

Both sound fun for their own reasons,
but for Rogue I worry I'll neglect the Stealth gimmick and just spam throw.
And for Summoner I worry that letting the summons do all the work will get boring.
So some outside opinions might help me make the decision.

Note:
I mentioned that I stopped playing Summoner one time before even killing a single boss.
I want to make clear this had little to do with Summoner and more with me starting a new run immediately after a long previous run, so I was kinda just burned out.

Dungeon Masters, At one stage of your campaign's development do you make your world map?

I'm slowly starting to work on my next campaign, but am conflicted on the order in which I should go about it.

On one hand I want to make the map of the city the campaign will take place in so I'll have a frame of reference when fleshing everything out.

But on the other hand making the map now means any changes to the worldbuilding could result in the map needing revisions.

So my question to the Dungeon Masters is;
When do you start/make your map when working on a new campaign?

  • Do you make the map first and adapt the story your telling to the result?
  • Do you make the map and campaign in tandem, slowly working on both at the same time?
  • Do you flesh out your setting first and then make your map based on that setting?
  • Something else I can't think of right now?
