How to know if I'd like dj-ing?

I'm really new to the idea and have only looked at some beginner sets, YouTube courses and controllers. -- please correct me if any of my terms or ideas could be a misinterpretation!

But I'm really interested in the idea of manipulating the music to make it more immersive, and coordinating music playlists to create an experience.

I'm not really interested in the idea of using it in it's social aspect (such as parties or hangouts with friends).

I end up playing a lot of rhythm games (sound voltex exceed gear, beatmania, maimai, wacca, osu etc...) and although they tend to have high learning curves, I enjoy them because they immerse me in the music -- so the idea is roughly similar that I might enjoy dj for a similar reason?

But after looking at some controllers recommended they seem really expensive, ** so I was wondering if there was any entry ideas (besides buying a controller) to see if it would be a worthwhile monetary investment? **

Tldr: is there a way to try out dj without pulling out a few hundreds? I can only eat cup o noodles for so long 😭😭😭😭
