Just a girl and her baby tortoise

I love this little guy (maybe gal!) with my whole soul. Happy Wednesday! Any plans for the week? It’s very cloudy in California.

Edited to add- I have heavily socialized him since he was 7 weeks old. He will follow me around and generally wait to be picked up.

I had to board Bayleaf for the first time about a week ago as I was going out of town. Thankfully our local reptile specialty store offers boarding. I was very nervous as I am very specific with how I care for a Bayleaf and I follow all the rules for husbandry. But alas I had to let him go for three days 🥹

When I picked him up, the worker brought him out to me and said “this is the friendliest most socialized tortoise I have ever seen”. It meant so much to me. Bayleaf is my first tortoise and I got him when he was 7 weeks old. He just turned 1. I did so much handling with him because I wanted to make sure he was comfortable with me and I was comfortable with him.

It meant so much to me that she said that. Thanks for letting me share, nobody else would understand ❤️

Love is when your tortoise who is a burrowing species that naturally hides himself for protection, sleep out in the open because he knows you would never hurt him ❤️❤️❤️

What makes you feel loved as a tortoise parent?
