I recently moved into a new home which is council tax band G. It's one of four semi detached houses that were built in the early 2000's. The other houses in our street are all band E or F but they are all detached. We believe one or two houses were knocked down to build the four semis so there aren't similar houses near. Other houses on the street vary in size but there are many larger than our house in footprint, plot size, bedrooms and bathrooms. Our house is also one of the lower values on the street.

We want to challenge the council tax band and have been told we need to use the same style house. So another semi detached.

Most of the houses in our town are detached. Our house is large for a semi detached. Trying to find other semis of a similar size with the same number of bedrooms and bathrooms is proving difficult (I've been through all sold houses in Rightmove that are semis within 0.25 miles). But there are countless detached houses bigger than ours and in a lower band. We've found a couple semis we can use (about 250m away) but also want to include detached houses which are closer as an example. If we need to use only semis we will need to look even further to find similar houses.

We don't believe there is a risk that the other houses will have the tax band raised, a new build on an adjoining road is band G this is much larger than other houses on our street and considerably larger than our house.

Has anyone been successful with using different house styles?

TLDR: live in a large semi detached which is band G. Rest of the road are band E/F all detached. Many larger than our house. Can't find many similar size semis near us. Can we use detached houses as comparable properties?
