I hate to be the hater. But i hate this and am wondering if I'm the only one. lol.
Is it just me or does this new track Ordinary World by Cat Dealers have a chord progression that is just so ripped off from Deadmau5 - Some Chords, which is one of my favorite all time Deadmau5 tracks....?
I have to think Joel (or any deadmau5 fans from ~2010s) would recognize the F out of it in 10 seconds into the track, too.
Also it's just not good, a dumbed down weak sauce version in the background, so I guess they thought they'd just get away with it by it being a weak ass watered down adaptation... but come on, it's still so obvious when that last chord goes up like that...
They say the best compliment is imitation or whatever. So I guess it's a compliment to Joel that 15 years later people are biting his chord progressions even if it is least weak sauce vocal house attempts to copy it.
But as far as I can tell they gave no credit... So let this be some credit given for the ORIGINAL author of an amazing chord progression.
It would be hilarious if Deadmau5 responded to this and was like "Actually I got these chords from ____" lol but I have never heard chords like his really from any producer and I listen to a LOT of music daily for 30+ years... so I doubt it.
But damn... like really? It's not like we don't remember some of the most iconic chords from the last couple decades. How are producers that have already "made it" ripping off such memorable and recognizable music from classics like Some Chords and giving zero credit... like you have ~1.5 million monthly streams, you're touring the world, but you have to do this cheap copy garbage with no credit?
What is next... Strobe with some garbage rap over it? Daft Punk One More Time with Nicky Minaj?
FFS, if you're already living the dream, making music and playing shows for a fng living, touring the gd world, just use your resources to make some original music and stop ripping off classics with no credits
