After finishing campaigns with Aksum and the Ostrogoths, I decided to give the Germanic tribes a try. I love this game and I’ve been putting a lot of hours into it, but lately I’m losing motivation with my Lombards run in the Grand Campaign. I’m really struggling to reach the victory objectives: I get rebellions even when everyone has the same religion, food, and sanitation, and I’m ALWAYS at war.
Right now I’m in a campaign where I’ve managed to stabilize quite a bit, but I’m currently at war with the Geats and the Caledonians, and if Attila declares war on me at any moment, he’s going to destroy the settlements I need for the victory conditions. I won’t be able to do anything about it with three fronts open.
My strategy has been to conquer only the required objectives (Germania and Raetia et Noricum) and slowly build up my economy, spending a lot of money converting settlements and trying to expand little by little — because if I expand too fast, I just die to rebellions and civil wars (which still happen, but less often).
Any advice? At this point I’m about to give up, and it’s a shame because I really like the faction and its bonuses, but despite the “Easy” start, the campaign feels unbearable.
