I have been suffering from self diagnosed CTS for about 6 years and bracing has helped me through most of that. But now my symptoms are getting pretty bad where even driving for 5 minutes causes my hand to go numb. And using my mouse at work causes me to go numb, some days within 30 minutes of being there I'm already screwed for the day.
I saw an orthopedic surgeon who confirmed with 95% certainty that it's CTS based on asking me questions and some general in office exam stuff like if I do this, explain if or what fingers go numb, etc.
He said we could go straight into release surgery with his 95% probable diagnosis or he can refer me to get the EMG test to confirm. I have heard that the EMG isn't always correct and it could give a false negative and say I'm normal. What would you do? Go straight to surgery or get the EMG, and what if it says I don't need the surgery?
My symptoms seem pretty text book which is why I was pretty confident with my self diagnosis of CTS and he also confirmed with 95% certainty but I guess the potential 5% chance has me hesitant.
