Could blood symbolise both fear and guilt in Macbeth?

So I've got an English exam tomorrow on Macbeth, and was just looking over Banquo's ghost, and it seems that the blood does in Banquo's "Gory locks" can't symbolise guilt as Macbeth has already proclaimed that "the very firstlings of my heart shall be / the firstlings of my hand".

So I was thinking, could it be that for Lady Macbeth the blood symbolises her guilt, but for Macbeth it is initially guilt ("gouts of blood which were not so before [on the dagger]"). This would show how the same action can have different effects on the characters. Maybe bring in Masculinity/Femininity, but I think I'll let the full fleshing out of the idea brew in my head a little longer.

What do you guys think?
