Incoming MS1 at McGill: Fear of Not Residency Matching First Try. What should I do to prevent it?

Hi all!

As most of us, I do not know how to relax lol! I got into McGill medicine this year after completing my MSc, and I want to know what I can start thinking about to ensure I can match into residency first try at McGill family medicine in a couple of years. I understand family medicine has a lot more spots than other specialties, but it is really important for me to stay in Montreal close to family and hopefully at McGill! I have 3+ years of research in Gynecology-Oncology and will soon have 2 first author publications from my MSc. I understand McGill is heavily research focused, so should I transition soon into more family medicine-related research instead? Or is research in general not really important for family medicine matching at McGill?

Sorry for the ramble! But thank you in advance for any help! :)
