Volunteer EMT Advice?

Hello, so I have wanted to be a volunteer EMT for a while. I am a senior in high school living in Virginia (and I often travel to Maryland), but I am going to college in North Carolina. When I initially started looking for fire stations where I could train to be an EMT, I saw that most of them required a 2-year commitment or at least a year of training. So I went to an expedited EMT training program, passed the psychomotor, and passed the NREMT (about 3 weeks ago). I thought that this might decrease the amount of training I would need once I actually started volunteering at a fire department. I have heard of college students volunteering over summer/winter breaks, which is what I want to do. However, none of the fire stations around me that I reached out to are willing to take me since I am going to college in the fall. Should I try to reach out to other fire stations or private ambulance companies around me? Or should I try to find a station near my college and volunteer there? I just want to start volunteering as soon as I can, so I don’t forget everything I learned. I am also willing to come to the station multiple times per week when I am home. I'm open to any other options as well, and would really appreciate any advice about what I should do. Thank you so much!
