Alternatives to melatonin

First off, I know there are a lot of melatonin posts on here, but I couldn't find my specific niche lol. I have taken melatonin off and on for probably 10 years now. I am in my mid 30's and a firefighter for context. I have never had any issues but for the past month or so, everytime I take melatonin I have the most vivid nightmares. To be clear this is not PTSD related, l don't have any psychological issues from work or otherwise. I can place the aspects of the dream to normal things I watched on TV that my brain turned into a horror show lol.

I have been having some issues falling asleep, likely due to my work schedule and stress. My wife is pregnant with our first child which has added some extra stress I'm sure. Her OB told her to take Unisom to help sleep. My wife told me to give it a shot. I used to take Lunesta about 8 years ago and that was great but you need a prescription for that. My question is, what are some cheap, over the counter alternatives to melatonin that work for yall, that won't make me witness fictional atrocities.

TLDR: I have issues falling asleep. Melatonin has started giving me horrific nightmares after years of use. My wife suggested Unisom instead. What are some alternatives to melatonin that yall use, that aren't a combination of multiple pills that I'll forget to take together? I'm a 1 pill kinda guy. No CBD or THC due to my job.

Thanks!
