I walked out of work today

Yesterday evening I was sent an email by an operational manager asking for visibility on the system on the peaks in the job vs staffing. I simply replied with several points as to why in my opinion the reasons as to why the system is unable to do that. There were several other people included in that email including my manager who is the head of operations.

A bit of context here, the company brought in a new piece of software where the head of operations works for my company but it’s also the director of that Company so there definitely is a conflict of interest. This software doesn’t have great report capabilities so I sent a follow-up to a meeting we had on the 31st of March saying still no action etc in a professional manner and I urge him in his role as head of operations to instruct the company to act on it as our company is paying a lot of money a month to this company for the provision of the software.

He then responded to my email about the oversight capabilities of the system looking ahead of jobs in advance but directed at someone else but very smartly asked me to explain a point mentioned within. Which I did again professionally.

There was an email sent from the software company saying they were waiting payment from my company and it turns out something wasn’t done correctly in the P0 system which I do somewhat have a part to play in that which is fine if I didn’t do my part.

There however, was a very smart jab made in the email between the accounts payable manager, the operational manager referred to earlier from my manager saying there was a cheeky comment made earlier about the money we are paying this company however if they weren’t waiting for that money, maybe they would act on things. The money isn’t the issue this software, that company has taken on too much and does not have the capacity to develop what is needed.

My manager is taking this personally and firing back in a childish manner as he’s clearly protecting his Software Company. I believe if he had no association with that other software company that he would actually go Yes we are paying them a lot and the system doesn’t do what it should. I felt I had to leave today as the anger and frustration really got to me and I would’ve lost it if I stayed.

Now I did open his office door said I feel sick. I’m going home and walked out so I don’t think I can be told I didn’t notify him.

What do you think shoud I go to HR stating why I left work today?
