What would you do if the PSWs and RPNs at your job were getting paid more than you?

Yes… I’m serious.

We’re unionized, and their wages were adjusted, but not the RNs’ (we’ve been waiting for years).

It’s very discouraging, honestly.

I don’t want to quit because it’s hard to find a job right now, but I’m losing motivation to keep going.

Hi everyone,

I’m an RN in Ontario and I completed my nursing degree outside of Canada, so I don’t have local undergraduate grades. I did complete a bridging program through George Brown College and St. Francis Xavier University.

I worked as an RPN for 4 years in LTC (including travel nursing), and I obtained my RN license in 2024. Since then, I’ve been working full-time in LTC as a charge nurse, but I don’t have hospital experience.

I’m really interested in pursuing a NP program, ideally to continue working in the long-term care/public sector. However, I’ve noticed that many NPs seem to have hospital experience, especially in ICU or acute care.

Given my background as an internationally educated nurse with primarily geriatric/LTC experience, what are my chances of being accepted into an NP program? Would I be at a significant disadvantage without hospital experience?

Thanks in advance for any insight!!
