I have ruled almost entirely for the better that casting spells is big flashy and obvious, much to the same degree that someone coming at you with an axe or a bow would be.

Having said that some of my pcs have some low level control spells which I feel I have completely shut down.

How do I give my players some millage out of these outside of combat without allowing pcs to completely mess up any NPC they come across.

I know these spells can become a major problem when you essentially give subtle spell casting for free (or with stealth roll).

But I feel there must be a middle ground I can tread.

Any advice?
