I’m student in Germany and recently tried to use AI tools (ChatGPT and Perplexity) more actively while writing papers, mostly for outlining and getting unstuck.
At first it felt helpful, but over time I noticed I was actually spending more time fixing things than writing. I still do most of the writing myself, but whenever I rely on AI for drafts or ideas, I end up having to double-check sources, adjust the structure, and rewrite a lot.
So my workflow turns into: outline - draft - fix - rewrite - repeat… which doesn’t really save time.
Using it just for structure helped a bit, but I feel like I’m still not using these tools the right way.
How are you using AI without it turning into extra work?
