Due to pricing concerns, I may need to take a Greyhound instead of flying in order to save money. Based on what I’ve read (mostly from Reddit), it seems like the experience should be fine, but I want to understand the actual process from buying a ticket online to arriving at the station and finding the correct gate.
How do you know which gate your bus will arrive at? Does the Greyhound app or your ticket show the gate number? I’ve read that gates can change. If that happens, does the app notify you, or do you have to rely on the station’s departure boards? Should you always keep an eye on the boards to stay updated? And if you need help, how reliable is the station staff?
Do they require ID to board? I’ve seen people say that if you bought your ticket online and have it with you, they usually don’t ask for ID. I plan to buy my ticket online, print it just in case, and bring my ID with me.
If I end up booking Greyhound, I’ll try to choose a route with as few transfers as possible, ideally just one. If a bus is running late, gets canceled, or if a delay causes you to miss your connection, will Greyhound put you on the next bus for free?
The stations I’m mainly looking at are Nashville and Atlanta. For anyone familiar with those locations, were they easy to navigate? Is there anything important I should know before arriving? Is there anything else I should know before using greyhound in general?
