Why don’t covenant ships have seatbelts?
I’m listening to the audiobook for Halo: Envoy and just got to the part where all the ships are falling out of orbit onto the desert planet. Grey team’s bumblebee lifeboat (named WTF-001 lol) crash landed and it was explained the Spartans couldn’t fit in seat restraints so they just locked their armor and braced against a bulkhead or grabbed a harness. They all got out at the end without injury including an unarmored human diplomat.
Then the covenant cruiser Unwavering Discipline came crashing in behind them and it’s giving the captain’s perspective during the moment of the crash as they get thrown around this massive control cavern in the center of the ship with nothing to hold them in place. Many of them are being described as dying on impact after flying across said massive multi-story control cavern and being crushed by debris.
Now, from what I remember from the game’s levels taking place on covenant bridges and ships I always wondered why they were so tall with no railings or anything and figured they had some hand wavey adapted forerunner stasis field stuff for if they ever crash landed.
Am I missing something? I know they’re against medical treatment/resuscitation efforts, but is there something in Sangheili honor culture about safety restraints on starships being cowardly? I just can’t understand how an advanced spacefaring culture made it this far without something as basic as *seatbelts??*
