For the past few months, I (38M) have been temporarily working in Japan and raising our now-10-year-old boy here. We are Australian, and my wife is back home. My wife has a family member, Eri (25F) who is mixed race (half-White/Brit, half-Korean) and Eri was raised in Australia so she relates to our son very strongly. She's known our boy forever, and every time she has visited our son, she's been so doting and kind towards him. She used to pick him up and gently swing him around.
Right now, my son is a bit moody. He used to be excited to stay in Japan but things are not going well for him at school and he's been lashing out. One day early this month, Eri was looking after him, making food for him and etc while I was at work. The day afterwards, she visited me and my boy at our home just to relax. She usually dresses very formally both on and off work, but this time, she just came to our home dressed up in a plain white racerback tank top and her basketball shorts. I was in my study when I heard her cry and say "no, please". She ran into my room, and she was crying and holding onto her tank top straps. What happened was that she was just messing around with my son while he was feeling happy for the first time in a while, and she put him in a headlock (which he enjoys). My son responded by yanking her tank top straps and doing some other stuff.
While Eri was in my study, she and I got into a really loud verbal fight, and I told her, essentially, that it was her fault for putting my son in a headlock. When I told her this, she had the most terrified look on her face and she couldn't speak through her tears.
