First year apprentice. The company I’m working with put me on a job in the neighboring locals jurisdiction. 2 hour round trip, I was driving 30 mins to my foreman’s place to save on gas, but this just saves $5 in gas for 3 hours total daily drive time (and I’ve gotta inhale cig smoke half the time).
I called the hall and asked if I’d be compensated for driving my own vehicle outside the union jurisdiction and she immediately shut me down with a flat no.
I’m not expecting to be paid hourly for the commute. The agreement sounds like it would cover something like an irs mileage rate and maybe parking strictly for the mileage outside our local’s jurisdiction.
I tried asking my foreman and another JW, but they just shrugged. Not sure who to talk to at this point.
