Fishing w sinkers in high water

Today I fished a tailwater w a tremendous discharge with a guide.
He was rigging w around 15' of leader-tippet under an indictor the size of a golfball. This was necessary because he had three flies (worm, shrimpy thing, snd egg pattern) over about a 0.3 oz of lead.
I would judge that as necessary considering the flow and depth, and we were using a fly rod. But basically, all I was doing was lobbing this enormous rig from one side of the boat the other every few minutes.
My question.....is this fly fishing?
PS I caught fish....bunch of stocked littles and a couple 18"ers. Lost the lunker which fidn't even fight, just hung on his rock until the fly came off.
