Snarky Jay's Q & A Answers!

Hello fellow Snarksiders! A couple of months ago, in celebration of hitting 10,000 subscribers, we asked Snarky Jay if she would be willing to do an A & A for us. She graciously agreed but was unable to do one live so we asked you what you wanted to know and sent them her way!

So, without further Ado, here are the answers to your most burning questions!

NotGoodEnough1980” asks- “What was your favorite cosplay to create (in terms of how much did you enjoy the process itself?”

It’s so hard to rate cosplays in regards to what was “fun” to create since sooo much of the crafting process is such a nightmare (a necessary evil though, LOL). To be honest, I’ve really enjoyed working on the Avatar stuff. Working with beads, feathers, braiding cord, and putting stuff together that’s supposed to imitate a very “natural” sort of look is really rewarding. I like the results aesthetically and some of the process is actually really relaxing!

BipolarShooter” asks- “How long on average does it take you to make some of your more detailed cosplays, from initial concept to con ready?”

Honestly, it depends how much time I have or what I’m doing in life in general. For instance, Optimus Prime is my most complex build and took me the most hours (over 200 I believe), but I finished it in a month because I was going through a rough time and needed a creative outlet. I can’t really give an average because each project is so different and depends greatly on (a) how obsessed with that thing I am and (b) how much “real life” is getting in the way, LOL. Sorry to be so un-specific!

Latinogoose” asks- “Is there anyone you’d love to collab with but haven’t? Be it another cosplayer or YouTuber?”

I don’t really do much in terms of collabs, but I would love to collaborate with Alyson Tabitha given the opportunity. She’s fantastic on YouTube, but I love her cosplays. A positive interaction I had with her alllll the way back in 2017 is actually the whole reason I kept cosplaying in the first place. She’s incredibly kind and collaborating with her would be incredible.

“MariJR” asks- “Are there any cosplays that you regret doing? Or ones that you wish you could restart?"

I can’t really say I “regret” doing any of them in a literal sense. But I definitely wish I had the heart to re-do and/or go back to my ESB Boba Fett build.

Final-Success2523” asks- “What’s the dream cosplay you haven’t had a chance to do yet?”

A Spartan from Halo would be so much fun.

Cust0m3rS3rvic3” asks- “What lessons or skills have you learned/developed over the years of you doing cosplay? If you were to give advice to someone beginning their journey in cosplay, what would it be?”

I think I’ve learned a little bit of everything and have become sort of a jack of all trades: I’ve learned makeup, foam-work, painting, sanding and finishing, general building, patterning, beading, weaving, etc. Honestly, if I were to give advice to someone starting in cosplay: it’s to be kind to yourself. It’s so easy to get frustrated with where you’re at skill-wise or to play the comparison game: but comparison is the thief of joy. Perfection is an enemy to progress. Movement is movement, and there’s no being “bad” at something you’ve only just started.

Trap_Lord85” asks- “Have you ever been contacted by overseas conventions or have you contacted any overseas conventions to make appearances at? (specifically Australia)”

Unfortunately, I’ve never been contacted by any overseas conventions and I find that being the one to reach out is usually not the best result haha. I’d love to go overseas to a con some day though, and Australia sounds amazing! Fingers crossed.

Western_Challenge_82” asks- “You previously recommended Isle of Dogs as a hidden gem, what is another underrated film or series you think every "nerd" needs to watch?”

Hm… While I don’t really think it has anything to do with “nerdy” stuff, I did really love The Holdovers when I saw it. Very cozy, sort of heart-warming in an unexpecting way.

Mindless_Mouse_2407 asks**- “I have three important questions to ask her: What are some of her favorite comic books? What are some of her favorite songs? What is her favorite Lighting McQueen merchandising she owns?”**

Favorite comic books would be… Captain America and Bucky (2011-2012): it’s a compendium telling their story via Bucky’s POV. Batman: The Long Halloween (self-explanatory). And probably Catwoman: Anodyne. I think Brubaker’s a rockstar.

Favorite songs are definitely harder to choose, but I can give you a few. “Pattern” by The Last Shadow Puppets, “Operator” by Jim Croce, “Broken Bells” by Greta Van Fleet, “Rocky Mountain High” by John Denver, god I could go on forever.

Favorite LMQ merchandise I own is easily the Chogokin McQueen figure. He’s got interchangeable eye and mouth plates and he comes on a beautiful stand. He’s in the background of my videos on the big stand behind me.

spidrmik asks**- “I know you probably get this a bunch of times, but what do you think your future would be like in the next 5-10 years?”**

Gosh, I wish I had any idea of what it would be. I’d like to give you some logical answer, but to be honest, I can’t tell you what I think it would or could be. I just hope I’m happy, healthy, and doing good for people.

Baked_Potato_732 asks**- “I want to know what is on the Necklace she wears nearly every video?”**

I wear two separate chains. One is just my name in sort of gothic letters, and the other are the hands of God and Adam, like from Michelangelo’s “Creation of Adam.”

ShaneMintyFresh asks**- What's her next sub goal? To me, I believe she can reach 500k subs. She just have to keep having faith within herself to keep growing and expand her youtube channel even more. I know it take a lot of time and effort. But I believe in her vision. I know she can pull off anything in her life. Like she said, it's about character growth/arc. There's always ups and downs. But, to see how much she overcame past odds. She made it this far. She's too snarky and have so much spunk. She can not give up. She have the power to make the world balance again.”**

I don’t really live according to “sub goals” really. I just upload and whatever happens happens. Thanks for the support though!

MooseFamiliar197” asks- “How about: if you could create one character to become a Disney princess, what would she be?”

I can’t really say I’ve thought much about creating my own Disney princess, but it’d be nice to create a Hispanic one that isn’t just another character re-hashed. There’s a poem by the famous Cuban poet Jose Martí called “Los Zapaticos de Rosa,” it’s a fairly simple story but the whole point is that this little girl who is adored and lives quite well, goes down to the beach and ends up gifting her coveted red shoes to another child, despite her family’s warnings not to so much as dirty those shoes. It’s a simple poem, but it’s all about empathy despite vast differences in social standing and economic privilege. I feel like something like that would be such a great starting off point for a princess story with kindness and a good moral for children. I don’t know. I’m probably rambling.

jordidipo2324” asks- “If you could gain the powers of one character you cosplayed, which one would it be?”

Can I just gain Wonder Woman’s entire power set? Because that would be great.

WDEBarefooter” asks- “Will you ever include your dog in a cosplay?”

He’s so uncooperative about wearing things that I’d rather just leave him alone LMAO.

Direct_Spinach_2349” asks- “Will you ever record the panels you do at conventions to upload for YouTube? Even if they are 45 mins to an hour we would watch!”

I will certainly try! I always say I’m going to and then I don’t get around to it. But I’d really love to share my panels with the folks on YouTube so I definitely will try to get that done next time.
