All 8 Surrey-Langley SkyTrain stations are now under construction

All 8 Surrey-Langley SkyTrain stations are now under construction

Crews just hit a huge milestone on the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension, with construction now active at every single one of the 8 new stations along the 16km route. Trackwork has started too, and the whole thing connects Langley to downtown Vancouver in about an hour when it opens.

This is going to be a game changer for the area!

I Love BC: The World Cup is coming to BC this summer and the numbers are wild

The World Cup is coming to BC this summer and the numbers are wild

Seven matches at BC Place. Canada plays twice. Over a million visitors expected to come to the province between now and 2031 as a result of this thing.

According to BC Business, the province is projecting $1.7 billion in tourism output and over $1 billion in visitor spending. Governments are expected to collect $448M-$478M in taxes and fees, against a net cost of around $85M-$145M. Not a bad return. On top of that, 360 million people watch a typical World Cup group stage game on TV. That is 360 million people watching something happen in Vancouver.

The BC Place schedule:

June 12 -- Australia vs Turkiye, 9 PM PT

June 18 -- Canada vs Qatar, 3 PM PT

June 21 -- New Zealand vs Egypt, 6 PM PT

June 24 -- Canada vs Switzerland, 12 PM PT

June 26 -- New Zealand vs Belgium, 8 PM PT

July 2 -- TBD

July 7 -- TBD

Viewing parties and community events are happening all over BC, not just Vancouver. Here are some of them:

Vancouver -- FIFA Fan Festival at Hastings Park, free, every day June 11 to July 19

Surrey -- three fan zones at Surrey Civic Plaza, Cloverdale Agriplex and South Surrey Athletic Park

Coquitlam -- Summer of Soccer, free viewings rotating across outdoor spots around the city

Kamloops -- Riverside Park at the Rotary Bandshell, June 11 to July 19 with food trucks and beer gardens

Langford -- month-long celebration through the cultural district with multiple live viewing days

Comox Valley -- watching Canada's opening match June 18 with live music and cultural performances

Haida Gwaii -- events across Daajing Giids, Masset, Old Masset and Skidegate

Prince George -- Watch Party in the Plaza for the final

Alberni Valley -- Indigenous-led celebration hosted by Hupacaseth, Tseshaht and Huu-ay-aht First Nations

Central Coast -- events across multiple sites from June 18 to July 19

32 communities in total are hosting events. Full list here: https://news.gov.bc.ca/files/2026WorldCupFundRecepients.pdf

BC and the Vancouver Whitecaps are building 20 free soccer pitches for kids across the whole province

$13 million towards brand new multi-sport pitches in 20 communities around BC, from urban neighbourhoods to rural Indigenous communities. I love BC!!

This begins my quest to bring some daily good news about our beautiful province to this sub :)

Why is this r/ilovebc only negative content?

I keep seeing this sub on my timeline but I can’t help but to notice it’s dedicated almost exclusively to negative news.

Is this some sort of Chinese/russian psyop to sew dissent or is it just a poorly named subreddit

EDIT: Someone in here suggested if i want positive posts why not make them my self. Good idea!

Here's my first one: https://www.reddit.com/r/ilovebcsub/comments/1t9bcp2/bc_and_the_vancouver_whitecaps_are_building_20/
